Many AAC companies put their apps on sale for half price in October for International AAC Awareness Month. It is a great time to save money and get communication into the hands of someone who needs it. Each app is different, so see below for the exact dates.
Symbol Based Apps
TouchChat HD with WordPower – October 1st to 7th
TouchChat HD with WordPower is symbol-based. You choose the number of buttons on the screen. Fringe vocabulary is organized by category-based folders. Both TouchChat and LAMP are put out by PRC-Saltillo.
Speak For Yourself! – October 1st to 7th
This is a symbol-based app. The home screen has 119 high frequency words (core vocabulary). Fringe vocabulary is organized by word association. You only need two button presses to reach any individual word.
Proloquo2Go -October 5th to 9th
Proloquo2Go was developed by Assistiveware. It is also symbol-based. You choose the number of buttons on the screen. Fringe vocabulary is organized by category-based folders.
LAMP Words For Life is based on the Unity language system. The home screen has 83 high frequency words (core vocabulary). LAMP has a consistent layout, promoting efficient motor planning for communication.
CoughDrop is an app that works on iOS, Android, and Windows. It is symbol-based with fringe vocabulary organized by folder. You choose from a variety of layouts.
Elements AAC – October 1st to 8th
Alexicom Pro is a symbol-based AAC app with a choice of pre-made page sets. It can be used across platforms and contains both symbols and photos.
Avaz – October 1st to 15th
Avaz is a symbol-based AAC app. You choose the number of buttons on the screen. The app is available in multiple languages, including six Indian languages and Tamil.
Text Based Apps
By Therapy Box, Predictable is a text-to-speech app. Categories allow you to save your frequently used phrases or sentences. It includes an emoji keyboard.
By Assistiveware, Proloquo4Text is a text-to-speech app that allows you to save frequently used sentences in folders. The Quick Talk folder allows for rapid social communication. Word prediction learns how you write and gives you suggestions of things to say.
Voice Activated AAC (Unintelligible keyword –> intelligible AAC)
VocaTempo -October 1st to 8th
Also by Therapy Box, VocaTempo is an app that helps people with poor intelligibility to speak clearly through their AAC. You train the app to recognize your speech for a series of key words. Once programmed, you can say the key word to have the app speak a pre-programmed phrase or sentence.
