Tech Tip of the Week: Hearing Support in iOS 12

iOS 12 is coming soon.  Not a lot of changes have been made to iOS accessibility features, but there is something exciting. For the first time, you will be able to pair your AirPods with the Listen Live app.

For those of us with some hearing loss, events in noisy environments can be challenging.  Background noise can make it really difficult for us to understand what others are saying.  It can be difficult, if not impossible, to keep up with the flow of conversation.

Up till now, consumers have only been able to take advantage of Listen Live if they use hearing aids.  With iOS 12, the user will be able to pair their AirPods, place their phone near the speaker, and hear that voice amplified.  Your phone will act as a directional mike.

This may prove perfect for those, like myself, who have some mild hearing loss, but have not yet gotten hearing aids.  How about students who have difficulty hearing their teacher and might otherwise benefit from an FM System? Listen Live with AirPods won’t replace dedicated hearing technology or a visit to an audiologist, but it sure might help!
